Fern T. Powell

Powell, Fern T. Fern Taylor Powell, age 90, went home with our Savior to His Kingdom, on Sunday April 13, 2014. Fern passed away, surrounded by family, at the home she shared with her daughter in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was born Lillian Fern Taylor, on August 17, 1923, to Elbert and Beulah Taylor, in Haigler, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, Verne L. Powell, her sister and brother- in-law, Lois and Sam Yates, her brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Mary Taylor, her brother Alan Taylor, her son-in-law, Bill Hardy and her great-grandson, Jarret Smith. Fern is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James and Linda Powell, of Golden, Colorado, and Kenneth and Carol Powell, of Liberty, Missouri, her daughter, Debra Hardy, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and her sisters-in-law, Marie Barney, of Flagstaff, Arizona, and Lorraine Taylor, of Richland, Washington, as well as,7 grandchildren,14 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces and their families. Fern met the love of her life, Verne Powell, at Lakeside Park in the El Patio Ballroom, on August 5, 1942. They joined in marriage on September 27, 1943 in Seward, Nebraska. They made their home in the Denver, Colorado area, from 1945 to 1967. They were transferred to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1967. And then to Southern California in 1968. In 1972, they were transferred yet again to Albuquerque, NM, for a short 6 month stay, but ended up spending the next 26 years there until Verne passed away in 1998. In November of 1998, Fern moved to Oceanside, CA, to be near her daughter and son-in-law and their family. She enjoyed the next 9 years living in a retirement community, in Oceanside, making many friends, which came naturally to her. Upon the passing of her son-in- law, Fern relocated back to Albuquerque, NM with her daughter. Fern will be missed immensely by all who knew and loved her. She was a kind, loving woman who always saw the best life had to offer. Fern enjoyed being a mother and wife and was happiest when surrounded by family.
