Florinda C. Martinez

Florinda C. Martinez (Flo) went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024. Surrounded by her family, she passed peacefully at the age of 86. Florinda was born to Estella Gonzales and Faustin Garcia in Santa Fe, NM, on December 3, 1937, the middle of five siblings: Arturo Garcia, Virginia Martinez, Martha Wallace, Billy Garcia, and Angie Clark. 

Florinda was a God-fearing woman, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, business owner and servant of the Lord. 

Florinda is the wife of the late Deacon J. Robert Martinez of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, where she was involved and committed to serving the congregation and community in every capacity for 37 years. Florinda’s servant heart was evident in all facets of her life; having made the largest impact on her children and grandchildren. Florinda is the mother of five children, beloved grandmother of six grandchildren and one great-grandson. 

Florinda is preceded in death by her husband, Deacon J. Robert Martinez, and eldest son J. Richard Martinez. She is survived by her daughter Bernadette Martinez, son J. Ron Martinez, son Bob Martinez and daughter-in-law Cynthia Gonzales-Martinez, daughter Brenda Amos and son-in-law Roy Amos, grandchildren; Marissa Martinez, Michelle Martinez, Santiago Garcia, Seferino Garcia, Isabella Garcia, Christian Amos, and great-grandson Landon Hamberg. 

Florinda had a gift of building personal and professional relationships. She exercised that gift most as the owner and operator of Surveyor’s Supply. 

Florinda had a genuine and effortless ability to befriend, care for and love all the people she encountered. She had the gift of hospitality, opening her heart and home to a countless number of people over the span of her lifetime. She touched the lives of many through her selfless giving, generosity, and humble nature. Florinda’s remarkable legacy as a good and faithful servant will never be forgotten and lives on in all those who knew her. She left the greatest inheritance to her family, faith in Jesus Christ, an inheritance for which we are forever grateful.

A rosary will be held Monday, August 26th, 2024, 6 pm at Shrine of St. Bernadette.

Funeral Mass - Tuesday, August 27th, 10 am at Shrine of St. Bernadette.

Reception to follow in the parish hall.
