Floyd J. Wheeler, 87, died on Friday, May 26, 2017 peacefully at home with his wife by his side. Floyd was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Ralph and Ida Wheeler. He spent much of his younger life in Roswell, and Carlsbad, New Mexico.
He met and married Bobbie Jean Savage, the daughter of Reverend Kenzy and Ester Savage of Roswell, and they were married in April of 1950 at the Assembly of God Church. He finished his career with PNM in Gallup, New Mexico, and enjoyed being called Flavio Begay from Window Rock.
Floyd was an avid hunter and shooter, and was very active in the New Mexico Gun Collectors Association. Floyd had a passion for animals, and owned many dogs in his life. He was generous to a fault, and very devoted to his family. He touched many people, and we will all miss hearing his stories.
