Frances Marie Smid passed away July 21st, 2024 peacefully in her home. She was born September 23rd, 1927 in Omaha Nebraska . Soon after, her family moved to Minnesota where she grew up on a dairy farm, Frances would often recount fond memories of her childhood on the farm and she felt closely bonded with the farm animals and her horse. In her later years, Frances would write many little stories featuring animals which were probably inspired by her years on the farm.
In later years, Frances family was forced to leave the farm behind due to her mother's medical condition and move West. She ended up in Albuquerque , New Mexico . A young Frances then met her husband Clarence Smid, who had moved there from Chicago to attend the University of New Mexico. Together they had four boys, Vernon, James, Ronnie, and Randy Smid. She had one grandchild Nicole Smid and two great grandchildren, Jasmine and Jessica Smid.
During her life in Albuquerque , Frances was a valued member of her community . She spent many years actiively involved in the Methodist Church. She was a devoted Democrat and would often volunteer her time to help at the polls for the local elections. Over the years, she gave generously of her time and her talents for many causes to help those in need in her community .
Frances will be deeply missed by her friends, neighbors , and family. She was an absolutely fantastic cook and baker. She was a self taught seamstress. She was wonderful with children and always created fun activities and parties for them to enjoy. She was a writer of short Children’s stories. Frances was unique in her connection to her own inner child which kept her imagination active . Those lucky enough to have spent time in her home will truly cherish all the memories of their time spent with this amazing woman.
A private family burial has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Frances is planned on September 29th at 12:30 pm at Grace United Methodist Church.
