Case, Francis George

March 19, 1930-November 3, 2015

Francis (“Frank”) Case was born in Rutland, Vermont, to Leon and Grace Case, and grew up with his older brother Milt on their family farm in South Granville, New York.  Dropping out of high school, he relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts, to work.  In 1948, young Frank enlisted in the U. S. Army, received basic training and attended Leadership School at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and, after a few other overseas assignments, subsequently fought in the Korean War as a part of Heavy Mortar Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division, out of Fort Lewis, Washington.  He was wounded in action and eventually discharged with the rank of Sergeant.  Among other honors and recognitions, he was awarded the Purple Heart.
When Frank returned home, at his mother’s suggestion, he swiftly made the acquaintance of Miss Madeleine (“Lyn”) Tanguay of New York City, whom he wisely later married in St. Mary’s Church in Granville.  At the time of his death, they had been married for 62 years.
With a growing family to support, Frank used some of his G. I. Bill funds to attend aircraft mechanic school, and eventually worked for Lear Siegler, Inc. (LSI), for the bulk of his civilian working life.  This particular employer frequently sent him and his family criss-crossing the country, fulfilling military contracts of varying lengths.  Frank later sought additional training in air conditioning and refrigeration repair, with which he supported his family in between LSI contracts.
Both life-long Catholics, Frank and Lyn were long-time members of Sacred Heart Parish in New Carlisle, Ohio, where Frank was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and they are new members of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.  Over the years, Frank was active in several veterans’ organizations-AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the American Legion-as well as the National Rifle Association.  (Frank was an excellent marksman, winning many competitive shoots, and, while living in New Carlisle, became a gunsmith of some notable local repute.)
In addition to his wife Lyn, Frank is survived by his daughter Jeannette (“Jeannie”) and her husband Rex Schlicher, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his son Leon, of Albuquerque; his niece Patricia (“Pat”) Beebe and her family, of Granville, New York; his grandson Paul Schlicher and wife Luisa, of Snoqualmie, Washington; his granddaughter Mary Logan and husband John, of Dalton, Massachusetts; great-grandchildren Jacob Logan, Nadia Schlicher, and Shawn-David Logan; and assorted cousins.  Frank was predeceased by his sister Patricia; his parents Leon and Grace; his brother Milton, Sr.; and his nephew Milton, Jr.
