Frank W. Montoya was born November 7, 1922 in Albuquerque, N.M. He attended Albuquerque High School and acquired a huge interest in world history. He served 3 years as a target acquisition instrument specialist in the Army Air Corp. Towards the end of the war he was promoted to the rank of Sargent. He also served as a Coronel Aide de Camp to Governor John E. Miles. Frank married Frieda in 1945 at St. Mary’s Church. Frank was a grocery retailer for over 50 years beginning at age 13. The last business he owned was Nob Hill Grocery which he sold in 1974. He built his own home in 1949 while working during the day and building his home on the weekends. He was the Commander for the American Legion Post 100 during 1967-68. Frank has been a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church since 1951 and served as a Eucharistic minister. He was the director of the Western Regional National Oratorical Competition in 1968 with the American Legion. Frank retired from the N.M. State Dept. of Labor in 1986. He served as president of the Victory
Hills Neighborhood Association from 1990-93. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Flora Montoya, brothers Felix, John, Fred and sisters, Josephine Telles, Senobia Saavedra, Jessica Baca and Sally Chacon. He is survived by his daughter Maxine and son in law Jose Berea, grandson Richard, his son, Dr. Frank Montoya and daughter in law Dr. Dianna Montoya. Celebration of Life services will be held for Frank on Tuesday, July 30, 6:30 P.M. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary located at 1100 Coal Avenue S.E. in Albuquerque.
