Frank Lester Nickles, 89, of La Plata, died Sunday, March 24, 2011, in Farmington. He was born January 3, 1922 in Durango, Colorado.
Lester was a rancher and farmer in La Plata. He was good at breaking and training horses and knew a lot about cattle. He was a "true cowboy". Lester attended grade school at La Plata and nineth grade at Farmington High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was later employed by the Upper La Plata Water Users Asociation and worked for them for five years.
Lester is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Nickles and May Glaister; brothers, Wesley and Gerald Nickles; and wives Helen and Karen.
He is survived by brothers, Donald and Lloyd Nickles; sister, Thelma Nickles; special friends, Naomi McNeely; several nieces, nephews, and great neices.
Cremation has taken place.
