Frank Hutchison Peavy Wells III

Frank H. Peavey (Pancho) Wells III passed away August 6, 2019. Frank was born June 17, 1950 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, F.H. Peavey Wells II. He is survived by his mother, Elsie R. Piper, and stepfather, Edwin E. Piper; two daughters, Kristin Dawe and husband Tyler and Elisha Wells both of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Xavier, Chloe, Eva, Eli, Caden, Emily, and Jack; two great-grandchildren, Parker and John; sisters, Penny Shannen and husband Tom and Kathie Chavez and husband Dennis and Lauren Piper, his loving nieces and nephews and best friend, Max Moya. He is also survived by two half siblings, Mary Ann Wells and Frank Wells.

Frank attended the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Alamogordo, New Mexico where his passion for wrestling first began. He returned to Albuquerque his Junior year of High School where he excelled in the wrestling program becoming an All American his senior year at West Mesa. He continued his wrestling at UNM and participated in the Olympic qualifying trials. Frank was also an accomplished drummer who attended the Berkeley School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. His love for jazz took hold in the years he spent in New Orleans. He returned to New Mexico in his late twenties and began playing with a Country Western Band. He continued playing until just recently.

Pancho was a boxing aficionado. He enjoyed having his friends over for every Pay Per View Boxing Event. His knowledge of the sport was legendary. He especially enjoyed attending the Annual Boxing Hall of Fame Inductees in Sarasota, New York. Frank and Max also attended the funeral of his long-time boxing idol, Mohammed Ali.

Frank will always be remembered for his kind heart and generous spirit. He overcame many obstacles in his life with determination and sheer tenacity. He obtained his degree in History and Creative Writing from UNM. Pancho had a great love of animals. He was especially fond of his best fur friend, Deja. She had many a fine meal at any restaurant that had a pet friendly patio. He was an avid reader and enjoyed engaging in long, thoughtful discussions on politics, boxing and world affairs. Pancho will be missed by so many.

Donations may be made in Frank's name to the Animal Humane New Mexico or to New Mexico Lions Club.
