Freda Ekburg left this life on the morning of September 24, 2015 in her Albuquerque, New Mexico home, passing quietly to join her husband Edwin. Freda was born in March of 1925 in Olathe, Colorado to Frank and Estella Roberts. Freda had three sisters and two brothers. Her family survived the "Great Depression" by living as farmers, off the land and the practicing of harsh frugality. This lifestyle instilled a strong sense of survival and great respect of life in Freda.
Her family later moved to Hugo, Colorado and after high school graduation in 1943, she left for Durango, Colorado. There she met the love of her life, a "tall, handsome blue-eyed Swede" named Edwin while working as a waitress at the Mandarin Café.
After their marriage in 1948, Freda and Edwin built a house in Hesperus, Colorado where over the next thirty years they raised three children. She lived in the Hesperus - Durango area for over a half-century, moving late in 1996 to Albuquerque to live near her son.
Freda's parents and all her siblings preceded her in death. Freda's three children survive her: Carl Ekburg and his wife Mona in Albuquerque; Charles Ekburg and his wife Sandy of Elko, Nevada; and Carol Ekburg of Albuquerque. Freda had several surviving grown grandkids Greg, Logan, Jon, Benjamin, Robbie, and Marissa and one great-granddaughter.
Freda's family will host a graveside service to celebrate her rich life at 1:00pm on October 2, 2015 at the Greenmont Cemetery, Durango Colorado.
