Frederick H. Kelley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, at the age of 92 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Born on August 15, 1932, in Washington, Pennsylvania, Frederick lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love that touched the hearts of many. Frederick was the cherished son of James and Rachael Kelley. He was preceded in death by his siblings James, Florence, Betty, Donald, Alice, and Edward, who he often reminisced about with fondness. His legacy is carried forward by his loving wife Virginia, whom he married in August 1959, and their three devoted sons, Patrick, Craig, and Jeff. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to his granddaughters Megan, Brenna, Lauren, Rose and Sabrina, and his grandson Jaxon, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy and to whom he gave his watch and sunglass collection. A proud veteran, Frederick served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956, a commitment that exemplified his strong sense of duty and service to his country. Following his military service, Frederick pursued a fulfilling career in research prototype machining, working at Universal Cyclops from 1957 to 1962, the Westinghouse Astronuclear Laboratory from 1962 to 1978, and finally at the Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1978 to his retirement in 1993. His contributions to his field were significant, and he was well-respected by his peers. Frederick's education laid a strong foundation for his career. He graduated from Trinity High School in Washington, Pennsylvania, in 1950, and later completed Radar Maintenance School at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi in 1952. His thirst for knowledge and continuous improvement was evident throughout his life. In addition to his professional achievements, Frederick was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of several Presbyterian churches, including North Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Washington, PA, Finleyville First Presbyterian Church, also in PA, White Rock Presbyterian Church, and Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church. He also enjoyed being part of the Pajarito Thunderbird Club, where he shared his passion for classic car restoration, particularly his pride and joy—a 1957 Thunderbird. Frederick was known for taking his classic car to local museums and elementary schools, helping to raise funds through his love for vintage automobiles and inspiring young minds with his stories. Frederick's kindness, love, and understanding were characteristics that defined him. He was a man who always had time for others, offering support and compassion to anyone in need. His gentle spirit and warm heart will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Frederick's remarkable life on November 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church Capital Campaign Projects Fund, a cause that Frederick held dear to his heart. Frederick H. Kelley leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and admiration, and while his physical presence will be missed, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
