Frederick William Kramer, 92, resident of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 12, 2024. Fred was known throughout his life for his kindness; generosity; and devoted service to his family, church, community, and country. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 28, 1932, Fred grew up in Chicago before moving to Seattle, Washington, and then to Denver, Colorado, for high school. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He then moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he was a summer student at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). After serving as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, he returned to Los Alamos to work at LANL during a career spanning 31 years of dedicated service to the United States.
On May 18, 1957, Fred married the love of his life, Marcella Frances Louise Sears, with whom he had four sons. Fred was always proud of his sons and the families they raised, and Fred and Marcella greatly enjoyed spending time with their extended family.
Fred is survived by his wife, Marcella Kramer; son Mark Kramer and wife Debbie Kramer; son John Kramer and wife Josie Kramer; son Steve Kramer and husband Steve Olivares, and son David Kramer; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Eilef and Edna Kramer; parents-in-law Lewis and Frances Sears; brother Leo Kramer, and brother-in-law Lewis Sears.
Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Rio Rancho, NM, on Friday, December 13, 2024, with a Rosary at 10:00 am and Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Thomas Aquinas.
