MCCORMICK- Frederick Bossert McCormick, Sr., age 87, a World War II and Korean War Naval aviator, and high school teacher, died at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, August 4th of a heart attack. He was born in Long Island, New York, in 1922. At 17, Mr. McCormick signed on as a Navy seaman after World War II began. Upon being accepted to officer flight school, he began training on a "Yellow Peril" N2S Stearman biplane. He flew a PB2Y Coronado "Flying boat" seaplane throughout the Pacific theatre during the war. He later served in the Korean War, and also flew 65 missions into South Pacific typhoons at 400 feet above the sea to gather weather research for the Navy. After World War II, he graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he met Catherine (Beti) Henriot, his wife of 52 years until her death in 2005. Upon retiring from the Navy, he taught English and Journalism at Bellingham High School, Bellingham, Washington, for 20 years. He is survived by his two daughters, Barbara Reid Macy and Jane Elizabeth McCormick; two sons, Dr. Frederick Bossert McCormick, Jr. and Captain Stuart Alan McCormick; and seven grandchildren.
