MASTER SERGEANT FREDERICK M. MICKLOS II

Master Sergeant Micklos II was born August 26, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio. He lived in Parma, Ohio and graduated from Valley Forge High School in 1969 and enlisted in the United States Air Force on April 24, 1974.
Upon completion of basic and technical training at Chanute AFB, Illinois he was assigned to the 42nd Organizational Maintenance Squadron (SAC), Loring AFB, Maine, as a 8-52D/G Maintenance and BPO Team Member.
In February 1976 Al C Micklos volunteered for a special duty assignment as a 431X1E Aircraft Maintenance Technical Training Instructor, 3350'h Technical Training Group (ATC), Chanute AFB, Illinois. During his tour as a Technical Instructor he worked on a team to develop the Able Chief Program. He also was involved in the closing of the school and transferring it to Sheppard AFB, Texas.
In February 1978 SSgt Micklos was transferred to the 28th Organizational Maintenance Squadron, Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. He immediately assumed duties as a KC/EC-135 Assistant BPO Team Chief. In January 1979 he was appointed as an EC-135 Crew Chief on the Looking Glass Aircraft. In June 1984 he was selected as NCOIC of Programs and Mobility by the Deputy Commander for Maintenance. While stationed at Ellsworth AFB, he received his Associates Degree in Aircraft Maintenance Technology through the Community College of the Air Force.
In May 1986 TSgt Micklos was transferred to Castle AFB, California. As NCOIC of the Programs and Mobility section from May 86 to May 92 he received three Excellent IG inspections and his people earned numerous awards within their programs. In August 1990 MSgt Micklos was called upon by 15 AF to aid in the development of a deployment plan for operation Desert Shield. In May 1992 he was appointed the Base Aircraft Maintenance Functional Manager for all maintenance AFSC's and spearheaded the reorganization and restructuring of five ACC maintenance squadrons and 2,000 personnel to three different command (ACC, AETC, and AMC) units. In January 1995, MSgt Micklos' expertise was needed for the next six months to schedule and coordinate all necessary actions to account for, and determine proper disposition of the 5,000 plus individual items of property and close the facility prior to his PCS in June.
In June 1995 MSgt Micklos was transferred to Kirtland AFB, New Mexico. He assumed duty as the C-130 Flight Chief and developed a program where his crew chiefs performed a power-on operational check of all systems during the aircraft maintenance preflight thereby eliminating numerous discrepancies normally found by flight engineers during their walk around preflight inspection. In May 1996 he was called upon again to apply his expertise as a manpower manager to correct an imbalance of maintenance personnel assignments between the squadrons in the 58th Special Operations Wing.
Master Sergeant Micklos' decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 6 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 6 oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 oak leaf clusters, NCO PME Graduation Ribbon with 1 oak leaf cluster, and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
Master Sergeant Micklos, retired, has been married 45 years to the former Kathleen M. Reynolds of Parma, Ohio and they have four surviving children: CMSgt (retired) Matthew (Glaiza) A. Micklos, Michael A. Micklos, Steven (Samantha) A. Micklos and Amy M. Dimas (Joseph). Additionally, Master Sergeant Frederick and Kathleen Micklos have seven grandchildren: Matt Jr. (18), Kayla (10), Lyla (10), Savannah (7), Trevor (6), Scarlet (2), and Bradley (2).
