Freeda Galloway died October 22, 2016. Freeda was born on October 13, 1922, at Tahoka, Texas. At 6 months old, her parents brought her into New Mexico. Her father had filed on property after World War I located 30 miles north of Quemado, known as Truchado, NM, where they received their mail. They had church in the schoolhouses as well as being educated in different grades at the same time in the same school house. Her parents, Hugh and Etta Gray, decided to move to Fence Lake so their oldest children could attend high school. Freeda attended four different high schools in order to graduate. Hugh Gray was county commissioner of the 3rd District located in western Valencia County. In January 1937 the weather caused deep snow in that part of the state. It took Mr. Gray 10 days to reach his residence from Los Lunas, NM. He then decided to move the family to Belen. In 1940, Freeda graduated from Belen High School. While attending the Assembly of God Church, she met her future husband. Tyra Oscar Galloway and Freeda Charlene Gray married on January 18, 1942. Oscar served in World War II and on his return they started a family. They had a daughter Nancy and two sons Lynden and Myron. Freeda enjoyed her hobbies of cooking, sewing, and oil painting. Her favorite thing to do was reading. She immensely enjoyed this as she became the adult Sunday School teacher for 20 years at the Assembly of God Church. She also served as Secretary/Treasurer of the church and had the talent to play the organ as well. In 2000, Freeda was diagnosed with maculardegeneration causing her to resign her duties in the church.
Freeda is preceded in death by her sisters Huletta Franks, Mary Waldon and brother Norman Gray. In 2008, she lost her husband of 66 years, Oscar Galloway. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Lunsford and husband Bryan of Albuquerque; sons Lynden Galloway of Santa Fe and Myron Galloway of Albuquerque. She has six grandchildren: Vance Lunsford and wife Raelene, Travis Lunsford, Kristen Galloway, Jeffrey Galloway, and Evan Galloway of Albuquerque; Charlene Brown and husband James and two great grandchildren, Jameson and Parker Brown of Rio Rancho.
