Cortez, Gabriel R.
Age 37, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in El Paso, TX on January 1, 1980, to Roman and Sofie Cortez. Gabriel loved music. When he heard a song that touched his soul he would pick up a guitar or his drum sticks and play that song over and over until he perfected it. He was also a talented artist and enjoyed writing poetry. Gabe had a love for animals and liked going fishing, bbq's with friends and was known for making people laugh. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, Roman Cortez; grandmother, Juana Valenzuela and grandparents, Jesus and Elena Cortez. Gabriel is survived by his devoted mother, Sofie Cortez; his loving daughter, Cheyenne Cortez; ex wife, Lena Chavez; sisters, Anita (Richard) Rodriguez and Sylvia (Rudy) Gutierrez, brother, Fernando (Amaris) Cortez; nephews, Brenden and Dylan Mannasmith, Judah Rodriguez, Giovanni Gutierrez and Everett and Wyatt Cortez; nieces, Aveyah Gutierrez and Isabella Cortez; and grandfather, Anastacio Duarte. Services will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 3:00 pm at  Daniels Family Funeral Services - Socorro Chapel, 309 Garfield St, Socorro, with Pastor Randall Westfall officiating.  Interment to follow at Socorro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fernando Cortez, Adolfo Lopez, Matthew Lopez, Rudy Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez and Jose Luis Nevarez.
