Gary Arthur Logsdon was born on April 13, 1946 to Everett and Margaret Logsdon in Albuquerque, NM. He made his final exit from the stage peacefully on January 2, 2024. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother Don Logsdon and sister Karen Madole. Along with an abundance of cherished friends Gary is survived by his niece Carla and husband Bruce Martin, daughter Mariah and husband Joshua Morrison, and daughter Emma Chase Martin of Edgewood, nephew Kyle Madole, his wife Tina of Edgewood, their sons Alex Ulibarri and wife Jamie of Albuquerque, Jacob Madole of Edgewood, Johnathan and Elijah Madole of Albuquerque.
Following graduation from highland high school Gary attended the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied the viola. As a young professional musician Gary became the Principal Violist for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 1971-1972. Longing to return to the desert southwest Gary joined the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra in 1972 soon becoming the Principal once again until 2010. He was a member of the New Mexico Philharmonic from 2010 until 2013. Gary also performed for the Santa Fe Opera for a number of seasons and passed on his love of music to young musicians as a teacher and as a mentor for those who went on to join the Albuquerque Youth Symphony.
In addition to his gift of music Gary was an accomplished artist honing his skills for landscapes under the tutelage of Wilson Hurley. His most notable portrait subjects, in addition to musicians, were of federal judges upon their retirement from the bench.
Gary’s endless wit, deep intellect and amazing artistic talents will be deeply missed. He lives on through his beautiful music and spectacular paintings.
A memorial service will be held in Gary’s honor on January 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Daniel’s Funeral Home, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Curtis Institute of Music, or the Albuquerque Youth Symphony.
