McElhose, Genevieve Elaine Edenstrom
Age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Socorro Good Samaritan Village in Socorro, NM. She was born in Fargo, ND on June 8, 1925, to Ella Josephine Edenstrom. She grew up in Wolverton, MN and after high school she moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked for Sears Roebuck Catalog Company. She then returned home and worked at Herbst dress shop in Downtown Fargo where she was a seamstress. Genevieve met Marvin McElhose, who was stationed with the United States Air Force in Finley, ND and they were married in 1961. In 1964 they made their home in Socorro, NM where Marvin was employed with RCA. Her first job in Socorro was with a nursery school program that she started at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She then worked at the Pinion Tree gift shop. After the shop closed, she started working at the First National Bank in 1975 which later changed to the United New Mexico Bank. She worked as a bookkeeper until retiring in 1987. Genevieve gave to the community through many labors of love including the Garden Club, Friends of the Library, Socorro Art League, Women's Bible Study Group and Good Samaritan. She loved to garden, sew, and do crafts, especially Christmas crafts. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Marvin Dwain McElhose, her mother; and her daughter, Sharon Edenstrom Heuer. Genevieve is survived by her daughters, Dawn Watson of Springdale, AR and Sheila Lewis and husband, Layne of Socorro; grandchildren, Alexis Lewis, Karissa (Scott) McDaniel, Lyndsey Lewis, Talon (Elizabeth) McElhose, Jilayne (William Hatch) Lewis, and Colten Lewis; great grandchildren, Ashlie Jojola, Haylie Jojola, and Owen McDaniel;  Son-in-law, Charles Heuer of Minneapolis, MN; and brother-in-law, Bruce (Donna) McElhose.  Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10:00 am at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1000 Goad, Socorro with Pastor Rueben Thomas officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Genevieve's honor to Good Samaritan Society, PO Box 1279, Socorro, NM 87801.
