George A. Martinez

George A. Martinez, age 82, was born Saturday, August 18, 1934 to Paul G. & Victoria S. Martinez. He passed away peacefully at home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 surrounded and survived by his loved ones. His wife, Lucille (Bernie) Martinez, his children; George A. Martinez Jr., Frank Bernal, Monique and Tim Gonzales, Tanya Bernal, Bernadette Bernal, Fernando Esquibel and Kim Himes, his beloved grandchildren which include his pallbearers; Felicia Martinez, Dontee Ewing, DaeShawn Baker, D'Andrea and Timothy Gonzales and Izaiah Bernal, and the little ones; Devyn and Donovyn Esquibel, Taeya Baker, Deja, Nevaeh, and Jayden Martinez, and great-grandchild, DaeShawn Jr. George also had surviving children living in other states; Mark Martinez, Beverly Thompson, Sharon Martinez, and Debra Kern and many grandchildren. George Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Sharon G. Martinez, brothers; Jesus O. Martinez, Sam Solano, and Valentin Martinez. He is survived by three sisters; Aurora L. Martinez, Lucianita Miller and Consuelo Anaya, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Families that have always been a great part of his life include, but are not limited to, Larry and Beatrice Lovato, Henry and Dorothy Connelly, Gloria Chavez and their families. The Officers and families of his Council 4227 and members and Officers of Father A.M. Mandalary Assembly 4th Degree, State and Supreme Council members that he and his wife befriended during their travels throughout the world. George was a member of the United States Marine Corps (Korea) and the United States Air Force (Vietnam). He and his family will always be proud of the various decorations and citations he was awarded during his 23 and a half years of military service. George was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus where he met and worked with many families throughout the state and nationally. He was an appointed agent and general agent where he served until his retirement after 24 years. He was elected and held all the highest offices in the New Mexico Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He served as Post District and State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and member of the American Legion Post 49. George and his family are members of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he and his wife were active and served as extraordinary Eucharist Ministers of Holy Communion.
