George Edward Morey

George Edward Morey, 70, passed away in his home June 10, 2009 after a long and courageous struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. George was born in Middlebrook, MO November 5, 1938, the son of Julius and Glenda (Haven) Morey. His passing is mourned by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Margaret of Albuquerque, daughter Ann Morey and her husband Blake Jordan of Albuquerque, son Ben and his wife Linda of Tucson, AZ and four beloved grandchildren: Georgia Ann Jordan, Isabelle Jeanne Jordan, Glenda Lian Jordan and Ian Ronald Morey. Also surviving are a sister, Barbara Thompson of Naperville, IL and four brothers: Danny of Rogers, AR, Alexander of South Bend, IN, James of Middle Brook, MO, Lloyd of Amarillo, TX, an aunt, Clara Yarger of Great Bend, KS and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joseph and niece Julie Morey of North Liberty, IN. George grew up in South Bend, IN and served in the US Air Force as a Russian language specialist. He attended Syracuse University, Bethel College and Western Michigan University earning B.A., M.S. and Education Specialist degrees. He worked in the public school systems of St. Joseph County in Michigan, Albuquerque, Roswell and Las Cruces as a teacher, principal, librarian, and administrator. After retiring from the Las Cruces School District, he operated a small construction business in Las Cruces and worked part-time as reference librarian at Branigan Memorial Library in Las Cruces. He was involved in various local and state library associations and he volunteered for church and service organization. George found his greatest satisfaction with his family and close friends. He will be remembered for his independence, his integrity, his opposition to censorship and the care and concern he showed for everyone his life touched. Memorial contributions in memory of George may be offered to Gospel Rescue Mission in Las Cruces and Joy Junction in Albuquerque.
