NEWMAN- George Newman, 91, was born on October 10, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest son of Rose and Samuel Newman. He passed away on March 20, 2011 at his home in Rio Rancho. George served with the Army in England and Belgium during World War II and worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in New York, was the Director of Admissions for French Hospital in NYC, NY and Director of Admissions of Booth Memorial Hospital in Queens, NY, where he retired from in 1984. George and Iris owned Candy Stores/Luncheonettes in Brooklyn and Queens, NY and proudly contributed to the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department in an annual “Vollies Day” in which all the proceeds of the day were donated to the Volunteer Fire Department. George always worked two to three jobs to support his family. Upon George’s retirement in 1984 he joined Iris who had already relocated to Rio Rancho in 1982. George and Iris enjoyed traveling to visit family and going to Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by his children, Frances Weir (Donald), Charlotte Klai (Lawrence), Michael Newman (Mary), Paul Newman (Marie), Rosanne Bianco, Steven Newman (Linda); seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edith Newman; brother-in-law, Archie Coleman (Margie) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 plus years, Iris Newman and siblings Baby Elizabeth, Dorothy, Ethel, Lester, Annabelle and William. A visitation will be Saturday, March 26th 4-8 pm and Sunday, March 27th 10 am to noon at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Road Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM, 505-892-9920.
