George D. Rice, 92, of Daisy, Oklahoma, entered into eternal rest on February 26, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico at his home. Born on January 30, 1932, George was a man whose life was defined by service to his country and being a devoted loving husband.
George honorably served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1959, a period during which he exhibited unwavering commitment and patriotism. He served in Germany for 11 months during his time enlisted. Following his military tenure, George embarked on a career as a Journeyman Lineman with the IBEW Local 357, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.
An avid horseman, George devoted several years to training racehorses, a testament to his patience and connection with these noble creatures. His backyard was his sanctuary, where he could often be found tinkering and creating, with his beloved dog Homer always by his side.
His family mourns the loss of a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. George leaves behind his daughter Micki G. (Ward) Forget and her husband Leo of East Brookfield, Massachusetts; his son Chuck Ward and his wife Cindy of Amarillo, Texas; daughter-in-law Cecile Ward of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and his cherished seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his treasured wife, Billie Rice of 52 years; his son Rex Ward; his brother Tandy Rice; his sister Ruth Wade; and his grandson Tye Rice Ward.
Georges family would like to thank his nurse Wendy from Giving Healthcare who cared for George for many years. Cecy, Anna and Briana helped Micki care for him after Billie passed and were very special to George.
Remembered for his resourcefulness and resilience, George will be greatly missed by all who know him. A service to honor his memory will be held on March 14, 2024, at noon at Sandia Garden.
