Gerald Edward Nix, 73, of Farmington, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at his home. Jerry was born October 1, 1937, in Nucla, Colorado, to Ammon and Cleo Nix. Jerry completed his BS and Master's degrees at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He and Roberta Irene Phelan were married on August 13, 1960. In the course of his 41 years as an educator, Jerry taught at Grand Junction Junior High School and Madison East High School in Madison. Wisconsin, and 15 years at Trinidad State Junior College. In 1981, Jerry and Roberta moved to Farmiongton, where Jerry became director of Adult Community Programs for San Juan College. He later served five years as Dean of Instruction, where he helped form educational parrnerships with Toyota and General Motors. Jerry finished his career teaching American literature and technical writing, and considered these years some of the happiest of his career because of his interactions with wonderful students and faculty. After his retirement in 2001, he enjoyed traveling, and pursuing his two favorite pastimes, woodworking and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Leonard Nix. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Roberta "Bobbie" Nix; daughters, Michelle Duran and Amy Campbell; son, Robert Nix, and eight grandchildren.
