Gerda Stecher, 85 years, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. She was born in Germany and lived on Long Island for 35 years until her retirement when she moved to New Mexico. She is survived by her two daughters Karin Atkinson and husband, Gary and Ingrid Reade and her husband, Rob; one grandchild Karly Atkinson and partner Steven; and many family members and friends. Gerda was proceeded in death by her husband Fritz Stecher; her mother Mutti; her sisters Inge and Leni; her brother and sister-in-law Hans and Liesl Stecher. She was a volunteer at both the Lovelace Westside Hospital and the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center. Gerda loved her family and her "one and only" granddaughter dearly. She enjoyed her profession, crocheting, baking, cooking, gathering mushrooms, nature, the ocean, and traveling with friends and family. A graveside service will be held Monday, April 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
