February 20, 1953 — December 14, 2024

Albuquerque

Gordon Theodore Getz Jr. (Gordy) was born on February 20, 1953, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Gordon Getz Sr and Clarice Getz. Gordon grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico and graduated college with a double major in Accounting and Business Admin from Eastern NM University in Portales, New Mexico. He started working for NM Gas Company/PNM as an accountant in the early 80s and retired from the Gas Company of New Mexico as Director of Utilities Accounting. He was a beloved man in work, play and family, known for his ability to easily make lasting connections with those from all walks of life. “Gordon never met a stranger” was noted by his wife and friends.

Gordon’s passion and skill for fly fishing (and fly tying) brought immense joy to his life, a hobby he especially enjoyed with his daughter, Amanda Getz Thomas, and his lifelong friend, David Coss. His warm, easy-going personality made him loved by many, leaving a lasting impact on friends and family alike. Eric Oram, Wyoming Two Rivers Fishing, his friend and fly-fishing guide, can attest to the deep bonds made in the many times fly fishing in Wyoming. Also, his nephew, Jacob Clark, quickly took to the pursuit. learning from Gordon how to tie flies and fish from a pontoon boat. Gordon was an avid outdoors person who golfed, hunted (mostly with a camera later in life), and kept a beautiful garden of roses, irises, crepe myrtles, hibiscus, peonies, cactus, and all flowers bright and fragrant. No one could grill salmon better than Gordon, and he made an outstanding cup of coffee! And no one loved and supported his wife Toni more than he did in all things cuisine and quilting.

Gordon is survived by his indulgent wife, Toni; daughter Amanda Getz Thomas; son-in-law Sean Thomas; grandchildren Madison and Liam; and Mother Clarice Getz. He also leaves behind his siblings: Rosemary Sutton; Barbara Getz (Bob Goldstein), Martha Gallagher (Mark), Paula Getz, Paul Getz (Audrey Martinez) and Carolyn Perkins (Keith Johnson). He was particularly close to his sister-in-law Diane Clark, his nephew Jacob Clark, and brother-in-law David Wirz.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Tandy Hardee Getz (Mother of their daughter Amanda), brother-in-law David Sutton, Toni’s parents, George and Joyce Wirz, and his Father, Gordon Theodore Getz, Sr.

His legacy continues through his friends, family, cherished grandchildren, blooming garden, and many thriving catch-and-release fish throughout the country. If you are looking for an organization to send more love, Gordon and Toni supported Susan's Legacy - Recovery Support, Counseling Services (in Albuquerque) and Hospice of New Mexico - Serving the greater Albuquerque, New Mexico area.

"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it….In the flow of the river, I found peace… “ Norman Maclean, A River Runs Through It and Other Stories.
