Harold Charles Off, 65, of Farmington passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at his home. Harold was born March 22, 1946 in Alamosa, Colorado the son of Charles and Jeannette Off. Harold graduated from Farmington High School in 1964. He served in the National Guard for 6 years. Harold married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Downs in 1966. He then began to pursue his life long passion in the automotive field. He took over the salvage business from his father, Charlie, expanding into installations and later 4-wheel drive and off road specialties. Harold was innovative, inventing the Navajo Brake Booster. Harold enjoyed life like no other. He enjoyed jeeping, motor homing, hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, and spending time in Rico, Colo. He enjoyed life completely, putting everything he had into the moment. It was Harold’s philosophy in life, as in business, to be honest, “above board” and fair. Harold took great pride in his family and his country. His children and grandchildren were the delight of his life. It’s hard to imagine life without Harold. He was loved by many and will be missed greatly. Our hearts are at peace knowing Harold is in a better place now. All the lessons, values, and memories he has left us with will be treasured forever. We look forward to being together again! We love you dad! Harold leaves behind his sweetheart Phyllis Off; sons Brett (Melissa) Off and Cody (Rachel) Off, daughter Amy (Shane) Spellbring; 8 grandchildren Croix, Lacy, and Taylor Off, Ashton and Brandon Staley and Hannah, Ethan and Joshua Spellbring; Harold’s mother Jeannette Off, sister Judi Off-Pitts and husband Derrell and many dear friends, colleagues and off roaders. Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute Street in Farmington. Graveside services for Harold will be Monday, June 6, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St with Rev. John Preston officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors provided by VFW Post #2182. Pallbearers are Charlie Houghton, Larry Cockrum, Tony Atkinson, Tex Spellbring, Gordon Hogue, John Bundy, Morris Hansen, Pat Gremillion and Jim Bailey. A celebration of Harold’s life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 211 W. 20th in Farmington with Reverend John Preston officiating.
