Harold E. Schaefer

Harold E. Schaefer, 78, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at SJRMC with his devoted family by his side, after suffering complications from pneumonia. He was born May 5, 1930 in Utopia, Texas to Robert and Martha Schaefer. Harold attended public school in Utopia and Sabinal, Texas. He married the love of his life, Idell Morris, on March 17, 1951 in Uvalde, Texas. He then served in the United States Army in the Medical Corp. and the Signal Corp. during the Korean War. Together, they had a daughter Madeline and a son Harold "Butch" Jr. Harold and Idell moved to Farmington in 1965. They established Four Corners Electric Co., Inc. and successfully operated it until 1984 when their daughter and son-in-law bought them out. They also owned and operated HICO Enterprises from 1983 to 1994 when they retired completely. Harold enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, motor homing, and boating. He loved spending a great deal of time with his family. Harold is survived by his loving wife Idell; daughter Madeline and her husband David; granddaughter Melissa and her husband Dennis; sisters, Irene, Margaret and Nina; and brothers, Freddy Joe and his wife China, and Jerry and his wife Judy. He was preceded in death by his son Harold "Butch" E. Schafer, Jr.; his parents; six brothers; and one sister. Harold was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. Pallbearers will be Jerry Schaefer, W.A. Morris, Howard I. McKinney, Dennis H. Kittelson, Gene Laughlin, and Greg Nelson. Honorary Pallbearers will be David G. Christensen, Dennis H. Kittelson II, Jerry Gladish, Reggie Crabtree, Benjamin Sanchez, Billy Cillessen, Richard Cheney, and Richard Mason. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Harold's name. Arrangements are entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel 404 W.
