Harold D. Thorson

October 7, 1928 — March 21, 2019

Harold D. Thorson, 90, of Albuquerque, passed away in his sleep on March 21, 2019.

He was born October 7, 1928 in St. Ansgar, IA, to the home of Donald and Leona (Hollatz) Thorson.  He grew up on the family farm and attended school in St. Ansgar, graduating High School in 1946.  Immediately upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army.  He served in the post war occupation in Japan, for a period of two years before he was honorably discharged and returned to St. Ansgar.  Upon return he worked as a carpenter there, as well as in nearby Austin, MN.

Harold met Patricia Ann Holfland at the Terp Ballroom in Austin, they were engaged and ultimately married in Austin on October 28, 1954.  Harold and Pat moved, to escape the very cold winters, to Albuquerque, NM in 1960.  They tried their hand at running a motel called the Frontier Motor Lodge, until Harold was lured back to his passion of construction.  Harold owned and operated Thorson Homes, a home construction and remodeling company for over thirty years, until his retirement.

Harold favorite past times included fishing, gardening and “playing” on his computer.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and, his special companion, Sasha, a rescued dog from Animal Humane.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patricia “Patty” Thorson; brother Eugene Thorson; sister Lucille Mackin; and brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Hofland.

Survivors include son Kurt D. Thorson and wife Janet of Albuquerque; grandsons Ahren and Alex Thorson of Albuquerque; brother Allen Thorson and sister Elaine Hansen of St. Ansgar, IA; sister-in-law Pat Hofland of Albuquerque; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
