Harrison Black

Harrison Evertt (Bud) Black Jr., 83 passed from this earthly life on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center, Albuquerque, NM.  He was born April 28, 1935 to Harrison E. Black and Hazelle Russel Caldwell in Ponca City, Oklahoma.  On August 25, 1956 he married Elizabeth Ann Lundy and they were married 52 years.

After High School, Bud continued his education at the University of Oklahoma.  He enlisted into the United States Air Force September 20, 1953 retiring after 20 years on October 31, 1978 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Bud moved his family to Albuquerque, NM in 1978 and began working at BDM International, Inc. retiring in 1992.  He wasn’t completed however with his employment career and began working at the United States Post Office October 1992 retiring in August 1999.  With three retirements, Bud decided that was enough and time to focus on what he enjoyed most; family, golfing, snow skiing, and swimming in his backyard pool.

Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Black; granddaughters Victoria Smith (husband Edwin) and Courtney Black; three great grandsons, J’ven, Jaxon and Jonathan all of Albuquerque.  One sister, Winifred Sisti Ashford (husband, Frank) of Oklahoma as well as nephew Edmundo Ashford (wife Kimber) and niece Christina Peitersen (husband Stig); one great nephew and four great nieces all of Texas.

Bud is preceded in death by his wife Ann, son Stephen, and his parents.

A time of remembering will be held on Thursday, October 4th at 11:00 am at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel.  Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, October 5th. In Lieu of flowers may be given in Bud's honor to Horses for Heroes, a 501c3 out of Santa Fe.
