Harvey Harwood, Sr.

March 1, 1929 — February 27, 2009

HARWOOD,Harvey Sr, 79, of Upper Fruitland, passed away February 27, 2009 at the Navajo Nation Medical Center in Shiprock. Mr.. Harwood was born March 1, 1929, the son of the late Tom Harwood and Ann Benally-Harwood. Mr. Harwood was retired from BHP (formerly Navajo Mine Utah International) after more than 25 years of service as a surveyor and draftsman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict and enjoyed farming, raising horses/livestock, horse racing, and was a longtime member and tribal officer of the Upper Fruitland Chapter House. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren and family. Mr. Harwood was preceded in death by his wife; Eleanor D. Harwood (2004) and a son, Harley A. Harwood (1986). He is survived by his children: Linda Yazzie (Daniel), Davis Harwood Sr. (Irene), Lena Harwood-Johnson (Herbert Charley), Harvey Harwood Jr. (Elvira), Herbert S. Harwood (Lonna), Hubert T. Harwood (Robbie), Lucinda H. Tsosie (Darryl) and Geraldine Harwood-Harris (Charleson); 30 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and sisters, Blanche Barber and Mary J. Harwood. Pallbearers are: Justine Harwood (USAF), Tommy Harwood(Army National Guard), Darren Harwood, Clinton Harris, Elias Harwood, Christopher Johnson, Darryl Tsosie and Lance Yazzie.
