Our beloved mother and grandmother Hazel Darline Erdahl Dissmore passed away, sleeping peacefully on Saturday March 6th, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at Brio Assisted Living where she had been for the past two years.
Hazel was born August 4th,1927 in Malta, Montana. She was the second child of Luren Oliver and Eva Helen (Chanlund) Erdahl. Her siblings were Loretta, Dwayne, Leila, and Gladys. Another brother Floyd passed away in infancy.
Hazel lived in Missoula for a few years as a teenager. When Hazel was 13 years old her mother Helen passed away from a brain tumor and was buried in Missoula. Shortly afterwards Hazel moved with her father and her siblings to Ferndale, Washington. There Hazel and her family lived with her Erdahl grandparents who helped care for the family while her father Luren worked. Hazel finished school and graduated from Bellingham high School. Hazel worked for the Bellingham Herald for about a year and then moved to Seattle and regional department in the University district.
Luren was married to Alta Gawley in 1945 and during the following years had four more children, Myrna, Erin, Wanda, and Linda. In 1960 they moved to Los Angeles, raising their family in Long Beach, California. Alta died of a heart attack in 1983 and Luren passed the same day. It was said he died of a "broken heart". An article was written about them and published in the Los Angeles times.
Hazel met her future husband Elbert N. (Pete) Dissmore when he returned from serving in the Army to study at the University of Washington after World War II. Pete completed his Bachelor’s and Master's degree at the University of Washington and he and Hazel were married in 1951. The newly married couple lived on Avalon Way in West Seattle for a year before they moved to Los Angeles where Pete was employed by the Los Angeles Seattle Motor Express (LASME). Pete and Hazel's son Dan was born in Santa Monica California in 1960. In 1963 Pete and Hazel moved to Bellevue Washington with her daughter Dia was born in 1966.
Peyton Hazel later moved to Vancouver, Washington for a few years before moving to Salem Oregon in 1970. Pete works for the state of Oregon employment division in Hazel worked for the Salem School district in the audio-visual department. Hazel was only 5 minutes from home where she worked and loved coming home for lunch. Hazel was a meticulous seamstress and enjoyed sewing dresses for her daughter Dia and making Raggedy Ann dolls. Hazel also crocheted. Hazel retired from the Salem Public School District in 1990. When Pete retired from the state of Oregon in 1991, Pete and Hazel made a coast to coast trip visiting family and old friends. Pete passed away from cancer in 1993 and Hazel remained in their home in Salem until 2002 before moving to Albuquerque to be near her son dan. Hazel's two grandsons Brady and Nolan were both born on Hazel lived in Albuquerque and Hazel would tell anyone who would listen all about them. Hazel remained in Albuquerque until her passing.
Pete and Hazel made their choices to serve the Lord when they were both young and remained true to their faith their entire lives despite all the challenges that came their way. They made many lifelong friends with whom they enjoyed a close fellowship and the meetings they attended and all the places they lived.
Hazel is survived by her son Daniel K Dissmore and his wife Perlita L Dissmore, of Albuquerque New Mexico, and by her daughter, Dia Glynn Dissmore and husband John Glynn and their two sons Brady Glynn and Nolan Glynn of Bothell, Washington. She is also for survived by her sisters, Leila Whitesmith of Vancouver, Washington, Gladys Mayberry of Rochester, Minnesota, Myrna Massey of Dewey, Arizona, Wanda Wirtjes Ritchie of Cleveland South Carolina, Linda Black of Surprise, Arizona, and Erin Erdahl of Long Beach, California.
Funeral arrangements are currently pending. and little flowers are family request that donations and Hazel's name be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle
