Coyler-Dawson-Howell, Helen Florence
Helen passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in Albuquerque. She was born May 22, 1923 in Mexico City, Mexico where her father was opening the first Exide Battery store. He then moved the family to a chicken farm in Escondido, CA. When Helen's mother passed on, her father moved the family to New York to be near relatives. He worked as a teamster and remarried. Together he and his wife ran a boarding house and grew their own food. Helen graduated from beauty college. She enjoyed roller skating at a skate club where she met Frank Dawson. She and Frank enlisted in the service after Pearl Harbor. Helen served in the Marines calling cadence and entertaining the troops. She married Frank and they had two children. Frank was in the 200 Bowling Club. When Frank passed on, Helen moved the family to Florida to be near her parents. She worked for Sperry Corporation and rented out a cottage for support with two years in Texas as a women's prison guard. Helen then met and married Jim Howell. They traveled the US extensively. She and Jim were entrepreneurs selling Avon and Amway baskets from 22 countries and lastly selling knives and related merchandise. They had lived in Florida, California, Idaho and retired in New Mexico. Jim passed on after 30 years of marriage. Helen has now joined him ten years later. She is survived by her two children, Frank and Luann; three grandchildren, Ben, Timothy, and Andrea; and two great-grandchildren, Kailyn and Luna. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at Faith in Christ Lutheran Church, 1750 Faith Ct. NE Albuquerque, NM 87112.
