Galloway, Helen Irene
Helen Irene Galloway, age 85, died November 4, 2015 at her home in Rio Rancho, NM. Helen was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 5, 1929, the daughter of James William Keylon and Blanche Imogene Keylon. Helen moved to Albuquerque the first time, as a teenager, when her family relocated to the Southwest. She married John W. Galloway, Sr. in 1946. As the wife of an Air Force officer, Helen moved and traveled all around the world during her husband’s earlier career including to England and the Azore islands. In 1963, John and Helen then moved back to Albuquerque. Helen was a devoted wife and mother. Once her children got older, Helen went back to school and completed her Bachelors in University Studies from the University of New Mexico in 1981. She worked as a dental assistant for many years. In addition to her family, Helen was very dedicated to her church. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women’s organization. She served in many capacities at the church including serving on the official board and superintendent of Sunday school, and also with the United Methodist Women. Helen was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julia Ann; her husband, Major John W. Galloway, Sr. USAF, (ret); and her brothers, Paul Keylon and Jack Keylon. She is survived by her four children: Judy Galloway of Boulder Creek, CA, Julie Upton and husband Rowen of Garland, TX, John Galloway, Jr and wife Monica of Rio Rancho, NM, Jerry W. Galloway of Garland, Tx; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, brother, Vernon Keylon, sister-in-law, Lily Keylon and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service to celebrate Helen’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Private placement of her urn will take place at a later time.
