Helena Marie Schritter

Helena Marie Schritter was born November 24,1939 and entered her heavenly home on December 11, 2024. “Lena”, as she was known, was born in Fleming, CO the 7th of 8 children. The family soon moved to Sterling where her mother raised the 8 children.

As a child she and her brother had paper routes to help with the family finances. She grew up with a strong faith in God, attending St. Anthony’s Catholic School through High School.

Lena knew how to have fun with the simple things of life. She was a waitress at the Abba-Dabba Café when she met a recently discharge Sargent from the Korean War, who had found his way to Sterling. His name was Clarence Schritter. They were married soon after and started a family that quickly grew to included 6 children. Lena wore many hats during her lifetime, Homemaker, Avon sales representative, accountant for the family businesses, head cement mixer for the home she and Clarence built in North Albuquerque Acres, caregiver for Rick, chief navigator for the many motorhome and Model T adventures she and Clarence went on. She was also the entertainment director for the many trips that the grandkids joined them on, Oh the memories they created. Her proudest titles however were that of Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Lena always had open ear and a comforting word when you needed it most. Lena was preceded in death by her 2nd born son Robert and her husband of 59 years Clarence. Left to celebrate her legacy are her children, Ray (Becky) , Bill (Robin), Sharon (Mark) Dominguez, Rick, and Dave (Pam). She also will be missed by 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A public visitation will be held at Daniels Mortuary, 4310 Sara Rd; Rio Rancho, NM on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 6-8 pm. The Rosary will be said at 10:00 am, Friday, January 10, 2025 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho NM, with Christian burial mass to follow at 10:30 am.
