Ewer, Henry B. Known to family and friends as "Bruce, Beloved father and husband, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 3, 2012 at the Kathryn House in Albuquerque, NM. He celebrated his ninety seventh birthday on December 6, 2011 with family and fellow residents of the Kathryn House. Bruce was born on December 6, 1914 in Helena, MT, where his parents George and Emma Ewer wintered. He was raised as a youth on a homestead in Monida, MT until the family moved to Southern California in 1927. They settled for a short time in Long Beach, CA while his father built the new family home in Fontana, CA. He attended local schools and graduated from Chaffey Union High School (Ontario, CA) in 1932. The summer he graduated he worked in the Imperial Valley icing down railway cars used in transporting cantaloupes, which were transported all over the US. In 1933, during the Great Depression, he worked in the Los Angeles area for the CCC serving as a supervisor of road and water catch basin construction in the surrounding San Gabriel mountains. After the Depression he worked in the automotive industry as a mechanic. Prior to WWII he married and fathered two daughters, Sonja and Sandra. During WWII he was employed at the Lockheed Aircraft plant. In 1945 he was divorced and in December 8, 1946 remarried Ottilie Vivian (Fries) Barlow, a widow with a four year old daughter, Natalie. In October 6, 1947, Christopher Scott was born and within a year the family relocated to Weed, CA where Bruce worked as a mechanic for Mallory Chevrolet. In August of 1956 the Ewer Family moved to Pacific Grove, CA and remained there until 2006. While in Pacific Grove, Bruce worked for the Chevrolet dealership in Monterey until retiring in 1980. While in Weed, CA Bruce became an avid hunter and fisherman and many years while in Weed the family depended on his ability to bring home his two deer each year to put food on the table. He also hunted upland game, ducks and geese. After moving to Pacific Grove he returned to Weed annually to hunt and fish. He also hunted and fished in the central CA area and during that time became involved with raising Brittany Spaniels. He trained them for hunting, field trials, and the dog show circuit. He and his wife, Otti, became quite successful with their Brittany��?�s and became heavily involved with the Central California Brittany Spaniel Club until the early 1980��?�s. Bruce was a member of the Free Masons and the Redman Lodge in Weed, CA. In 2006 Bruce and Otti moved to Albuquerque, NM to be closer to their son, Christopher and his wife, Lynette. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Ewer, his wife, Ottile, his first wife, Thelma, and his sister, Emma Lee (Ewer) Latimer. Bruce is survived by his son, Christopher, daughter-in-law, Lynette, daughters, Sonja (Ewer) Clark, Sandra, and stepdaughter Natalie Barlow, twelve grand children and step-grand children, 19 great-grand children and step-great grand children. His family and friends remember Bruce as being honest, hardworking and generous. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 1:00 pm, in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services at 7601 Wyoming Blvd, NE, Albuquerque, NM, followed by Inurnment of his ashes at the Sandia Memory Gardens.
