Herbert Succo Sr. died July 10, 2011, in White Rock. He was born April 14, 1942, in Stoney Butte. Succo was born into the Sleeping Rock People Clan and he was born for the Mountain Cove People Clan. Succo attended elementary school at Bisti Methodist Mission, Phoenix Indian High School, Riverside Indian High School, Anadarko, and Oklahoma College, and the University of New Mexico, Gallup Branch. Succo worked for Gallup Sheet Metal, and Navajo Commerce Department. Succo retired from Lake Valley Navajo School as an educational aide and bus driver. He was a member of the CLUPC committee, Atsa' Butte Singers and he was an active member of the White Rock Chapter. Survivors include his wife, Lucy R. Succo; sons, Herbert Succo Jr., Cleavon C. Succo, Ivan C. Succo; daughter Janell M. Succo, all of White Rock. Succo was preceded in death by his parents, Mathew Succo and Marian Big Thumb and his brother, Herman Succo. Pallbearers will be Herbert C. Succo Jr., Cleavon C. Succo, Ivan C. Succo, Michael Johnson, Eldrick Morris, Hendrickson Brown, Tyrone Brown and Irvin Jim. A gathering will be 4 p.m., Thursday, July 14, at Succo’s residence, 4.5 miles south of White Rock Chapter. Relatives and friends are encouraged to attend.
