Herman Mescal

Funeral services for Herman C. Mescal, 77, will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 26, at Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup. Randall Burbank Sr., will officiate. Burial will be in family plot, Borrego Pass. Visitation will be 11 a.., Dec. 26, at Cope Memorial Chapel. Mescal died Dec. 18, 2009, in Borrego Pass. He was born Nov. 9, 1932, in Littlewater, into the Sage Brush Hill People Clan for the Towering House People Clan. Mescal worked for and retired from the railroad. He was married for 60 years. He was a life long resident of Borrego Pass and members of Casamero Lake Chapter House. He was also a cattle rancher for most of his life. Mescal was well respected in his community. Survivors include his wife, Helen C. Mescal; sons, Oliver L. Etsitty, Alfred K. Begay; daughter, Bernice K. Maurice; parents, Charley Platero, Elizabeth Sozie; adoptive parents, Ned Mescal Jr., Mary Mescal; brothers, Sampson Mescal, Ervin Mescal, Teddy Mescal, Lorenzo Mescal, Freddy Padilla; sister, Nancy Ramone; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren. Mescal was preceded in death by Evelyn Mescal; Ernie Mescal, Henderson Mescal, Willie Sozie. Pallbearers will be Mandel Yazzie, Lorenzo Herman Yazzie, Allan Yazzie, Alfred K. Begay, Ervin Mescal, Sheldon Mescal. The family will receive relatives and friends at Casamero Lake Chapter, following services. Cope Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements
