Hobert “Herb” Crosby was born on January 3, 1940 in Marshall, Texas to Hobert Sr. and Reva Crosby. A short time after graduating from high school, he met Melissa Johnson at church and they begin dating. They married in 1959 and remained married until her passing in 2014. To this union 2 children were born: Darlyne and Herbert. In 1992, they were blessed with the birth of their only grandchild, Kelsea Melissa. He got such joy in the personal interactions with Kelsea. Herb loved the Lord and made sure he let His light shine through him in everything he did
Herb completed his MBA at Pepperdine University School of Business and Management where he was also associate dean for a number of years. After a fellowship with the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, he joined the Arthur Young Company as a manager; responsible for managing several government contracts in Washington, D.C. He also served as Director of Finance for the Opportunities Industrialization Center in Ghana, West Africa. Upon returning to the United States, he served ten years as President and CEO of United Wilshire Petroleum, Inc. and as a part-time professor at numerous universities in the state of California. In 1989, he relocated to New Mexico and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the Anderson School of Business and Management, and the Department of Public Administration at the University of New Mexico.
Herb has been a resident of New Mexico since 1989 and has been affiliated with various boards and organizations including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Governor’s Small Business Advisory Board, Board of Directors of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Presbyterian Hospital Foundation Board, Del Norte Rotary Club of Albuquerque, Albuquerque Business/Education Compact (ABEC), Board of Trustees of the University of New Mexico Hospital, the American Diabetes Association, the Albuquerque Rotary Club, Casa Esperanza, the Emergency Medical Service Board and has served as former Chairman of The Rio Rancho Labor Relations Board, the Board of the Black Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico, the Black Veterans Association of New Mexico, Chairman of the Sandoval Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors New Mexico Loan Fund Board, The Albuquerque Christian Children’s Board, New Mexico Workforce Connection Board .
Herb was called home from labor to reward on January 13, 2024. He leaves to mourn his passing a daughter, Darlyne; son, Herbert; son-in-law, Ron; granddaughter, Kelsea; 3 brothers, Bill, Donell and Lloyd; 1 sister, Debra; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, dear friends and colleagues.
Because of the caring and tender father, brother and grandfather he was, Herb will be sorely missed. But greater than the sorrow we feel now from his passing is the joy that he spread in his life. His wisdom, love and compassion and the beautiful sweet memories of him are a blessing to us all and will continue to guide us throughout our lives.
