Howard relocated with his family to Albuquerque in 1970, going into business with his brother-in-law, Don Cobb to start Pleasuretime Soda. In 1973, he purchased Lucas Stationery, later re-named Pen & Pad, which is still owned by his son Victor. Howard enjoyed golfing, fishing, and music.
