Ida Jane Wood

March 27, 1924 — January 9, 2010

Ida Jane Wood was born March 27, 1924 to Joseph and Lillian Spencer in St. Louis and went to be with her Lord and Savior January 9, 2010. She was the 2nd of 5 children. The family moved to Borger, TX in 1930. She met TJ Wood at age 12 and they married Jan. 11, 1941. Their first child, Ida Mae, was born the following year. Joe joined the family 3 ½ years later. The family moved around Texas and in 1954 moved to Farmington. Ida joined the First Baptist Church of Farmington in 1954. She raised her family as only a true lady would. Sewing until midnight for Ida Mae and getting Joe to all his sporting events and trying to cook enough to keep a growing boy and hardworking husband full and happy. She was widowed in 1978 when TJ passed away. After TJ's death, Mother Ida continued on with her busy life not changing much daily except her Saturday night dance partner was no longer with her. She loved life and lived every moment to its fullest but, always stopped to smell the roses along the way. Her love of competition, playing games and her zest for life will be remembered forever by her grandchildren. She taught them the important things. When at Mother Ida's the kids were woken to dancing music and hit the ground moving. It remains one of their most cherished childhood memories. Ida was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the prime of her life. She battled the disease like she did any hardship she faced with dignity, courage and her great faith in God. It wasn't until she was no longer able to care for herself that many of her close friends discovered the battle she had silently fought for so many years. She moved into Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Aztec and was soon the beauty queen of the building. She spent her days playing bingo and winning laundry quarters for great-grandson Chris to use at UNLV. Her evenings were spent playing cards and dominos and drinking hot chocolate with her new friends. The night before she joined her dance partner and grandson, she refused to go to the dining room without first putting on her lipstick and lip liner. Grandson Eric Wood passed in 2004 in a motorcycle accident. She also joined her sisters Faye and Evelyn. Her younger brother Arthur passed away as a child. Ida is survived by her daughter, Ida Mae and favorite son-in-law, Jerry Damron of Farmington, son Joe and wife Dale of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Mother Ida's grandchildren are Natalie and Gary Riley and Steve Damron, all of Farmington, Brent and Wendy Wood of Seal Beach, CA, Amie and Glenn Graff of Cedar City, UT and Trevor Wood, of San Juan Capistrano. Great grandchildren are Chris Riley, Austin and Tyler Wood and Jennifer Bullock. Several nieces and nephews also survive her, including Carolyn Penrod and Rick McDaniel of Farmington. There are numerous friends Ida loved like sisters and brothers. The family wants to thank the entire staff of Good Samaritan Village who loved her and took care of her as if she was their Mother Ida. Also, Dr. Kompare and Dr. Hoffman who fought Ida's illness with her and never gave up. She did it her way and on her own terms and we all feel lucky for this. Now she is in God's hands.
