Irene
Irene Poirier Brown, 94, born June 12, 1926 in Collinsville, CT, took her last grand journey on December 11, 2020, at home as the night sky expanded across Albuquerque. An enthusiastic world traveler, she took with her the remembrances of many extraordinary trips during her stay on Planet Earth – particularly in the magical years of 1980-1986. She was a great dowser of Earth energies at many sacred places on this great Earth and generously left behind photos, mementoes, and engaging stories of her extensive travels.
Her greatest trip was to New Mexico in 1991 where she found her permanent home. Here she could touch the never-ending blue sky and search for infinity.
Aunt Irene left an indelible mark on her family and opened her loved ones’ minds to the great possibilities beyond one’s imagination. Irene was a prolific writer, leaving behind poems, spiritual reflections, and a biographic history of her life and of her family’s Canadian heritage. Her nephews and niece will treasure memories of Irene bringing them on numerous adventures while she lived in West Hartford, Connecticut.
She leaves a loving sister-in-law, Marie Poirier of Avon, CT, her niece Joanne (Karl) Neuhausser, Burlington, CT; and Poirier nephews Mark (Beth), Concord, NC; David (Julie), Mobile, AL; Alan (Cheryl), Old Lyme, CT; Philip (Charline), Avon, CT; and Brian (Mark Hartung), Torrington, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, Imelda Landry Poirier and Francis Poirier; brothers Edward and Raymond Poirier; her niece Linda Roberge, and nephews John and Dennis Poirier. She looks forward to a reunion with her husband, Robert Brown, in their next life.
Irene created lifelong bonds wherever she went and touched the lives of countless people. She was an intent listener and made every person she encountered feel significant. Irene’s love swelled beyond its already expansive reach when she moved to Albuquerque almost 30 years ago. Irene cherished her “New Mexico family” as her own. The many treasured friends Irene leaves behind include Sissy Drain, Sherry Pincus, and Michael Effron, who each brought Irene extra comfort and care this past year.
The family wishes to thank the caring providers of the Presbyterian Hospice Program and the aides from Home Care Assistance who Irene loved.
Irene adored animals, and would often take daily walks to greet the prairie dogs in her neighborhood. For many years, she supported a wolf sanctuary and other habitats that protected vulnerable populations. Irene enjoyed the company of her cat, Tammy, and her other felines over the years whose time to crossover came before Irene’s.
A private celebration of her life will be held by Irene’s family and friends at a future date when Albuquerque’s never-ending blue sky will greet us with Irene’s infinite spirit.
