Isabel Duran passed away on January 10, 2018 at the age of 97 yrs. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Duran, Margaret Duran and husband Antonio Sing, grandchildren Steven Lucero, Tamara Rajaram and husband Gokul Rajaram, Joseph Sing Duran, great grandchildren Ari and Natasha Rajaram, cousin George Pino, sisters in law Carmen, Connie, and Emily and extended family Frank and Patsy Ramirez, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Born in Socorro, NM to Mauricio and Fidelia Armijo, the family moved to Albuquerque where Isabel attended St. Mary’s, graduating in 1940. She loved her reunions and keeping up with classmates especially her best friend of eighty years, Stella Alarid and Adele Davis, the last surviving member of the class. It was at St. Mary’s that she became an avid fan of football and basketball and you could always find her watching her favorite teams on TV. While working at Sears & Roebuck in downtown Albuquerque, she met her future husband, Joe Duran, returning from WWII and needing a new white shirt. They both loved to go dancing on Saturday nights, were each other’s best friends, and were married for 62 memory-filled years until his death in 2009 of Alzheimer’s. She retired from the State of NM, Construction Industries after 29 yrs. of faithful service and commendations from the Governor. A devout Catholic, she was insistent on sitting in the same pew each Sunday and in her waning years she watched daily Mass on television. She was a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. And though she grew weary, through sheer will, she survived to see the last of her grandchildren, Joseph, graduate from UNM in December. Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Joe, father-in-law Miguel Duran, brothers Reynaldo Armijo (Bataan Death March), Maurice Armijo Jr and wife Esther, brothers and sisters in law, Phillip Duran and wife Jennie, Pauline Ruiz and husband Mariano, Albert Duran, George Duran and Mike Duran Jr. Pallbearers are Steven Lucero, Joseph Sing Duran, Antonio Sing, Gokul Rajaram, Ari Rajaram and Frank Ramirez.
