Ivan Jesse Shrum, 90 of Kirtland, passed away on Saturday, August 13th, 2011. Ivan was born on June 10, 1921 in Agate. CO. He is the son of William Payton and Nancy Loretta Ellen Allison Shrum. He was their 13th child. Ivan and Esther were married on June 20th, 1941 in Denver, CO and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the LDS temple in St George, Utah and just celebrated their 70th year of marriage. They moved from Colorado to Kirtland, NM in 1991. Ivan was a retired casket maker, formerly with Law and Sons of Denver, CO. His favorite hobbies were fishing and writing poems. His favorite fishing spots were the lakes above Monticello, Utah. He was a published poet and has dedicated several of his poems to his eternal companion, Esther. He was known for his generosity and kindness to others always helping those in need. He loved to sing, tell stories and had a quick wit and a fun sense of humor. He was friendly and helpful to all who knew him. Ivan served in WWII in the India/China/Burma Theater of Operation. He also served as the mayor in Oak Creek, CO from 1986-1987. Ivan was twice the Post Commander for the VFW and also served as their District Commander. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ivan was the father of three sons, 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and leaves behind his wife, Esther: sons, Dave (Shirlee) Shrum of Blanco, NM: Ken (Mary Ann) Shrum of Farmington, NM and Bill (Shelia) Shrum of Orlando, FL; and sister Daisy Greenwell of Worland, WY. Cremation will take place memorial services for Ivan will be at 10 a.m. Saturday August 20th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 473 County Road 6100 in Kirtland with Bishop Marion Wells conducting.
