Jack B Bruton

Bruton, Jack B. 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Bruton Ranch with his family at his side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Datil Gym with Pastor Dan Bullock officiating. A family interment service will take place at a later time in the Datil Cemetery with Father Patrick Wedeking officiating. Jack was born on April 7, 1928 in T or C, NM to Wesley and Allene (Gauwain) Bruton. His parents were Socorro County pioneer ranchers. Five generations of the Bruton family have ranched in New Mexico. Jack�s grandparents, Charlie and Agnes Bruton, ranched for a time in Texas and began ranching in New Mexico in the 1880�s. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Grace Harriet, in 1948. In 1952, Jack and Grace started ranching on the San Augustine Plains. The Bruton family has ranched on those plains ever since. Throughout his life, Jack was active in the community. He served on the Socorro Electric Cooperative Inc. Board for 40 years. He was on the Salado Soil Conservation Board for 15 years and on the Good Samaritan Planning Board for Socorro County. Jack was also a member in the New Mexico Cattle Grower�s Association and the New Mexico Farm Livestock Bureau. He enjoyed roping in the �Round Belly Roping Club,� a group of ranchers who practiced roping on weekends for fun, and the Datil-Pietown Cowboy Polo Club, friends who played polo without the standard rules. Two recent highlights in Jack�s life were being honored as Grand Marshall of Magdalena Old Timer�s Reunion in 2008 and being featured in the New Mexico Magazine article and the book, �Making a Hand: Growing up Cowboy in New Mexico� in 2005. Jack is survived by his son, Jack W. Bruton (wife Bonnie) of Datil, NM; his daughter, Doreen Threet (husband Bill) of Jonesboro, AR; his daughter, Sharon Bruton of Belen, NM; brother Neil Bruton (wife Pauline) of San Antonio, NM; sister Marianne Porter (husband Al) of Socorro, NM; sister Alice Duquet (husband Bob) of Socorro, NM; and sister Sue Harriet of Datil, NM. He is also survived by many grandchildren, Beau Bruton (wife Autumn) of Cliff, NM; Broc Bruton of Gardendale, TX; Brett Bruton of Datil, NM; Ty Wade of Jonesboro, AR; Corey Wade of Jonesboro, AR; Shanna Bly (husband Scott) of London, AR; Russell Threet (wife Sarah) of Orange, VA; and Josh Markland (wife Shawnee) of Melrose, NM; and 15 great-grandchildren, many nephews, nieces, and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Bruton, his granddaughter Tessa Lee Bruton, and his grandson Ryan Threet.
