TORREZ, JACK
Of Albuquerque quietly passed Monday evening, December 2nd, 2024 with his daughters by his side. Jack was born May 10th, 1957 in Albuquerque, NM to Luis Miguel Torrez and Marian A. Torrez. Jack had six brothers and six sisters.
Jack was a welder by trade, but had many skills and abilities which made him versatile and resourceful in additional occupations like auto mechanic, custom auto paint technician, plasterer and stucco mason. His name fit him well, because he was definitely a “Jack of all trades.” He refurbished and collected many vintage vehicles over the years that he would show with pride to his family and friends. He showed his love by offering his skills and services to his family and friends.
Jack’s hobbies and interests as a young adult was his love for nature, camping and fishing for trout in the San Juan river. As an older adult, he developed a love and interest for gardening tomatoes, jalapeños, squash, and cucumbers. Jack was a protector of pollinators as a beekeeper. He often harvested honey from the bees he protected during summer months and took much joy in being a beekeeper and sharing that he had an “understanding” with the queen to harvest honey. Jack also cooked up the best and most delicious New Mexican dish—Chicharrones with red chili. His eyes would light up when his grandchildren would savor every bite.
Jack often articulated his deep care for his daughters and four grandchildren especially his grand-daughters. His common phrase was, “how’s my girls?” His children, grandchildren, and family meant the world to him along with his best-friends one of which was his companion dog, Sonse. He often would refer to Sonse as his “baby” or “my boy.” Jack lived a simple life but found many moments of beauty in the simplicity of the world one of which is being in awe of rainbows. He loved rainbows!
Jack is survived by the mother of his daughters, Dorothy Marrujo; his daughter Vanessa and husband Lance and their children Roman, Feliz, Zackery, and Ashley; daughter Rochelle; and many members of the Torrez and Anaya families.
Jack was a loving “pops,” grandpa aka “grandpa bones,” brother, uncle and friend. His love was expressed in various ways. He touched many hearts with his silliness, humor and chill energy. Many parts of him will be missed as he was a perfectly imperfect unique human being.
Love you dad, brother, uncle, friend.
