Dalton, James E. James "Jim Edwin Dalton, 85, who lived for many years in Eastern Idaho, died of natural causes on June 5, 2012 at his daughter��?�s home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Jim was born February 10, 1927 in Monticello, Utah. His family moved to Glenn��?�s Ferry, Idaho where he attended elementary school. Later, he attended school in Boise, and high school in South Dakota. At age 16, during World War II, Jim talked his way into the Navy. He fought in the Pacific Theater during the final years of the war, and participated in the Japanese Occupation in the months following the surrender. He returned home and was discharged in 1946. Jim moved to Pocatello and worked for Garrett Freight Lines until the beginning of the Korean War. He married Dorothy Lois McCall in Elko, Nevada on October 15, 1950. In January 1951, he rejoined the Navy, and served his nation until 1968. He was stationed in Korea, San Diego, Virginia, Maryland, Japan, and ended his naval career aboard ships serving in Vietnam, retiring as a Master Chief in 1968. While in the Navy, he became a commissary man. The "mess halls (kitchens) that Chief Dalton commanded were commended for their fine operation, and his mess halls won the NEY Award four times: twice on board ships, and twice at bases in Cheltenham, Maryland and Kamiseya, Japan. After his retirement, Jim worked for several years for McDonalds Corporation as a trouble-shooter in California, Nevada, and Arizona. Later, Jim worked as a baker for Marriott Corporation in the Pond Student Union Building at Idaho State University in Pocatello. His baked goods, particularly cinnamon rolls and pies, were well known across campus, and his cake replica of the PSUB was a hit at its 25th anniversary celebration. After he finally retired, Jim moved to his quiet desert home east of Belen, New Mexico. He enjoyed the quiet isolation and peacefulness of his home. In his final years, he lived with his daughter, Carol Ann Harris in Rio Rancho. Jim is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Dorothy Lois Dalton of Pocatello, Idaho and his three children: Carol Ann Harris of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, James (Jay) Michael Dalton of Ocean Shores, Washington, and Marie Louise Dalton of Pocatello, Idaho. He has four grandchildren: Paula Marie Zamoro-Sagara of San Francisco, California, Jeremy Michael Gameson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Walliam (Bill) Brace Uhouse of Rio Rancho, new Mexico, and Alisha May Lundschen of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He also has five great-grandchildren: Jessie, Brendon, Treagan, Brayden and Derek. Jim has two surviving half-sisters: Edna M. Charpilloz of Oregon and Mary Hansen of Oregon plus many nephews and nieces. Viewing will be Wednesday, June 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and services will be at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 2400 Southern Blvd SE, Rio Rancho.
