Holston, James Benjamin Jr.
James Benjamin (Jim) Holston, Jr., son of James Benjamin Holston, Senior and Dorothy Roach Holston, born April 18, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully October 21, 2015 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jim Holston had a long and distinguished career in multiple fields that took him around the world. The majority of his career was in radio broadcasting, in which he was involved from his student days at Northwestern University through multiple positions on-air in radio and as a manager and entrepreneur. Jim pioneered a number of radio formats with some of the most successful radio stations in America during his career. Holston was a gifted teacher in broadcasting and electronic, travelling to remote locations such as Urumxi, China, well before other Westerners. Jim is remembered for his devotion to Marilyn, his wife of 57 years, who passed in November, 2011. Jim and Marilyn shared a passion for theater, particularly the Conejo Players in Thousand Oaks, California, where they jointly worked and co-produced a number of wonderful productions. Jim had a lifelong passion for classical music - and is also remembered as a jovial friend to all. Jim is survived by three children, Sherry Strayer of Marina, California; J.B. Holston III of Denver, Colorado; and Linda Holston of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Holston of Washington, D.C. and Lianna Holston of Stanford, California; his sister, Nancy Paulson of Nashua, New Hampshire; and his devoted dog, Jake.
