James F. Howden

November 7, 1942 — August 29, 2019

James F. Howden born November 07, 1942 to William Howden and Catherene Howden (Lane) both of which preceded his death. Also, Grandfather Fredrick B. Howden, first Episcopal Bishop of New Mexico & West Texas. James grew up in Albuquerque’s North Valley where he attended Valley High School. He graduated from St. John’s Military School in Salina Kansas in 1960. He went on to graduate from New Mexico Highlands University in 1967 with a Bachelor’s degree in History & Physical Education. James taught school in Los Lunas after his graduation, and then at Bernalillo High School where he retired in mid-1990’s. He coached many sports at BHS: Track, Cross-Country Running, J-V Boys Basketball until 1983, Head-Girls Basketball Coach from ’83–’94. After his retirement from BHS, he coached a team in the Senior Women’s Basketball League for several years. James is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 50 years, his son Stephen and his wife Dina, Grandson Brandon, and Brother William Howden. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and Brothers and Sisters in-laws from the Las Vegas New Mexico Area.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2093 Cabezon Rd. (at the corner of Golf Course and Cabezon Rd.) Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
