James Mares

James Mares, 61 passed away on July 1, 2011 in Bernalillo, NM . James was born on June 28, 1950 to Epifanio Mares, Jr and Kate Mares. He was raised in the Bosque of Bernalillo where he made close ties to the community. He was the oldest son of a family of six, helping on the family farm and teasing his siblings. James attended Bernalillo High School where he graduated and then went on to the University of New Mexico where he met his future wife, Elizabeth. After college James enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam war. James was extremely proud of his position of Yeoman. After Vietnam he married his beloved wife, Elizabeth and they settled in Bernalillo, where they raised their children that they absolutely adored. James was employed and retired from the Bernalillo Public School System. He loved fishing, hunting, Lobo basketball, cooking and being with his family. He is preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Mares. James is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of 38 years and children, Jamille Carrion (Ron), Paul Mares (Brittney Scott). He leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Josiah, Emiliah, Noah Carrion, Santino Mares and sisters, Tomasita Navarro (George), Patty Urioste, Kathy Mares-Castillo (Keven) and Liz DeVargas. He is survived by his mother in law, Annie Trujillo and sisters in law Arlene Martinez (Frank), Patricia Trujillo (Dennis) and Dodie Medrano (Tony). James was a loving father and grandfather and Uncle. Nieces and Nephews loved “Uncle James”. If James were with us here and now, he would tell Elizabeth, “I will never stop loving you!” A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 S. Camino del Pueblo, Bernalillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 12:30 pm. Inurnment will take place on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 1:30pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Damian Navarro, Mathew Urioste, Thaddeus De Vargas, Frank Martinez, Arsenio Medrano and Mario Medrano. Honorary pall bearers will be Dennis Lowe, Tony Medrano, Savonn Currence, Chris Reed and Mike Baldonado.
