James W Moore

James W. Moore DPM (1928-2013) James W. Moore, DPM of Albuquerque, NM died June 26, 2013. He was 84 years old. Doctor Moore was born in Estherville, Iowa and was a 1953 graduate of the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine (now the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science). Doctor Moore practiced in Cherokee, Iowa from 1953-1973 where he maintained a very successful private practice. During that time he was also very active in the Iowa Podiatry Society and served in all offices including President in 1962. He developed the first Relative Value Schedule (RVU's) for podiatric medicine in the state of Iowa. He became a fellow of the American College of Foot Orthopedists in 1964 and served as the president of the Midwest Division from 1972-1974. He was certified as a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics in 1978 when he received one of the first diplomat certificates (#21). He later served as National President of ACFO in 1984. In 1973, Dr.Moore accepted an appointment as Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Sciences with the academic rank of Professor at the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine and moved to Chicago, Illinois. His primary objective was to correlate orthopedic sciences and biomechanics being taught in the classrooms and practiced by the profession at large. He authored the Clinical Orthopedic Handbook which was used for many years as the standard for students learning taping, shoe modification and orthotic casting techniques. Following his university appointment, Dr. Moore accepted a position as Director of Podiatric Medical Education, at Hines VA Hospital near Chicago. He trained many students and residents from 1980-1987. He then moved to Albuquerque,NM and served as Director of Podiatric Medical Education with the New Mexico Federal Regional Medical Center (" Albuquerque VA") from 1987 until his retirement in 1992. Throughout his professional life, Dr. Moore was a strong advocate for podiatric education. He was very proud to serve on the Council of Podiatric Medical Education from 1985-1990. He served on many appointed committees and elected positions, and consulted on even more. His philosophy of life was, "If circumstances are not what you feel they should be, do something positive to improve the situation". He is survived by his wife of56 years, Suzanne. Services will be held at Risen Savior Catholic Community at 9:30am on Friday July 5, 2013. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
