James William Scanlon Jr.

August 10, 1946 — February 27, 2025

Albuquerque

James William Scanlon Jr. passed away peacefully after a battle with Dementia, with his family by his side on February 27th. The biggest Alabama fan out there, Jim was born to Effie Elizabeth Pinckard and James William Scanlon on August 10th 1946 in Troy, Alabama. But he grew up in the state of New Mexico.

While growing up in Farmington, NM he found a love for baseball and pitching. He pitched for the Farmington Scorpions throughout high school and even received a scholarship to play in college at Grand Junction, CO after marrying his childhood sweetheart Cyndy Stoabs. After battling an injury he left Co and moved his family (two daughters by then) to Portales NM, where he completed his college degree in Business at Eastern New Mexico. A third daughter was born and then a son. After graduating he landed a job with First National Bank in Albuquerque NM, where he established ATMs and worked in finance. His real love of baseball never left as he played club ball, lots of golf, loved barbecuing in his backyard in the North Valley and visited places most of us have never heard of. Traveling became a pastime after retirement and the Scanlon couple from little town Farmington went overseas many times. After traveling was over, his passion became sharing photos with his many grandchildren, the Dallas Cowboys and a henna red 1983 BMW 633csi. James, Jim, Jimmy or Scanlon will be remembered by his witty sense of humor, good looks and bushy mustache smile.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father and many aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his beautiful loving wife of 60 years, Cyndy, three daughters, Monyca and her husband Pat McWethy, Mysha and Mone’e and her husband Mike Korbas. And his son, Matt. Eight grandchildren, Kyle and his wife Chantal, Kimberly and her husband Shawn Neito, Brooke, Cole, Collin, Hazel, Katie and her husband Logan Sewell, and Beau. 2 great children, Liam and Lilly. His sister Kaye Admire and brother-in-law Brian, nephew Keith and nieces Robyn and Emily and her family, Damian and Alex.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Advantage assisted living in Rio Rancho. They welcomed Jim and handled his care with grace (even on his onry days) and also the Luna Del Valle Hospice staff.

A burial for family will be at Memory Gardens in Farmington, NM and a celebration of his life will be held in June in Albuquerque, where he resided for most his life.
